The following comes from the South Dakota Family Policy Council:
HATE CRIMES LEGISLATION - Religious Freedom at stake!

Senate Judiciary passes SB156:
Proponents from
Equality South Dakota brought an amendment which altered the bill to cover "sexual orientation, sexual identity" udner our current Hate Crimes Legislaltion.

This bill will come up on the Senate Floor on Thursday! Who
is your State Senator?
Please call today and ask your Senator
to VOTE
NO on SB156.
Senate Lobby - 605-773-3821

Talking Points:

All crime is hate.

  • This legisaltion creates a seperate class
of victim based on how the victim sees their "sexaul
    orientation."

  • When a person changes how they see their sexaul
identity, (i.e. people move into and out of the homosexual
lifestyle) should a criminal attack on them have a different penalty
depending on which side of the line they are?

  • If a person claims an attack on them was due to
their "homosexual identity" how can this be proven?

  • This legislation is ambigous enough to include
the possible prosecution of people speaking out against a lifestyle they
don't agree with, if in fact the 'victim' believes their words are a
physical threat. How can we possibly evaluate this?

  • Prosecution of pastors and Christians on this
issue have happened all over the world.

  • The Philadelphia Nine were a group of Christians
prosecuted for standing outside a Gay-Rights Rally. The group
included several eledrly ladies that were simply holding signs referring
    to homosexuality.

Wednesday Issues: (Click on any to go to our Bill Tracker to find our
shich legislators we need you to call.)

  • HB1149- College bill
  • HB1156- Study on Human Trafficking
  • SB134- Require Insurance companies
    to cover contraceptions.
