Milbank debaters joined debaters from Brookings, Aberdeen Central, and host Watertown at an after-school contest on Tuesday, November 17th.
In the advanced novice division Jesse Nelson and Seth Phillips were undefeated in their three rounds and won first place based on speaker points. Also undefeated and taking second place was John Ward and Timothy Whelan. Kylie Hagen and Cheyenne Voeltz finished next with a 2-1 record.
In the Novice B division, the negative tandem of Rebecca Schrupp and Tori Hopkins won all three of their rounds as did the duo of Brock Rudebusch and Brandi Neidert. Also negating the resolution were Samuel Grorud and Rachel Johannsen. On the affirmative side were the teams of Courtney Trapp and Alicia Bublitz, Dezmond Ward and Jordan Welberg, and Ryan Hepper and Austin Berens.
"The kids did well. They are learning things each time they debate. That is important because it makes them think more all of the time. Some of them had extremely busy days as they competed at the Region Interp in the morning and debate after school. I am especially thankful that assistant coach Ron Frauenshuh could take these debaters to Watertown. Lyla Linquist also made the trip that day. It was nice not to have to worry about them as I knew they would have things under control!"
