February 20, 1883
Melrose Township; Dakota Territory
The Literary society met Wednesday, February 14th and a very interesting and instructive time was had. The membership of the society is increasing, now numbering thirty-two. During the evening, Mr. Randall favored us with music on the organette. The question debated was, "Resolved, that man will do more for love of whisky than for love of woman."
Mssrs. Davis, Randall and Bennett being on the affirmative and Messrs. Lowthian, Ingersoll and Llewellyn on the negative. The judges decided in favor of the affirmative. After the debate a very interesting paper was read, edited by Misses Florence and Jennie Simmons.
From correspondence of the Grant County Review.
