| At the EDA meeting on Feb 7, 2007 Blair " Johnson stated the EDA would become a taxing authority directly. This would eliminate the requesting funding from the City of Ortonville every year. Also the state is talking about putting a freeze on the amount the local governments could raise taxes. This would not affect the EDA's ability to raise their taxing levy. This would be a steady funding for the EDA. Johnson stated that we would need to request from the city to become a City Tax Levy Authority." If the State would pass a ceiling on current levies for Cities, the EDA, would not really be able to Levy from much more. With this information brought forth the EDA decided at this time not to become a Tax Levy." Read the links below: EDA Tax Levy March 2007 EDA Tax Levy March 2007 p2 | |
