| The City of Ortonville had their regular meeting and one of the first orders of business was to appoint Char Grossman as Interim City Clerk. Mayor Dave Dinnel made the motion and recommended the 10 step on the pay scale. Councilmen Mel Rienke made a friendly amendment and said the city had budget issue and moved for step 8 pay scale. The motion was approved unanimously passed. This writer notes that Ms. Grossman has been a very dedicated city employee and I would encourage all citizens to thank Ms. Grossman for her years of service.
Dave McLaughlin was appointed city attorney also with a unanimous vote. Mr. McLaughlin has also served this community in the past.
There was significant discussions regarding open meeting laws and changing locations of the meetings.
The meeting was user friendly and open to discussions.
One unanswered question is how much it cost the city to terminate Mr. Lang. As the site has reported in the past, the contract between Lang and the city was one-sided to Mr. Lang's side and past Mayor Johnson, Oakes and past City Attorney Ash all supported this contract. | |

| It is refreshing for this city council to be concerned about the present budget. Is this a subtle acknowledgment that the previous council overpaid David Lang? Considering that Char Grossman is being paid far less than David Lang was, could one wonder how pay equity is justified? One can also wonder if the present City Council will have the wherewithal to refuse to pay the unjustified compensation of $30 or $40 thousand, what ever it is, because according to the contract David Lang was "not able" to work in the city because he did not live in the city limits. Is this a question for the new city attorney to address? My congratulations to Char Grossman and Dave McLaughlin on their appointments. The city needs you and the city council is opening up to better government and representation of the people. | |
