The communities of Ortonville, Milbank and Wilmot are all talking about the floods in the last ten years.

My lake property is under water again this year. I am not going to assess who is right and who is wrong. The purpose of this thread is to educate and discover why have we had so much problems with flooding these past years.

I was told do not worry about flooding on Big Stone it was a controlled lake. However 1997 proved this theory wrong.

We have had two floods since that were almost as bad.

This spring I heard angry voices directed at the Watershed and the Browns Valley diversion. The anger was directed at the construction firm and engineering firm. I have no opinion yet, but we need to look at this.

There is also concern about the lack of bidding which may have violated law. However a lack of bidding has very little to do with flooding.

The Whetstone was a concern when Sen. Franken was present and the depth of the lake continues to be of concern.

The surrounding area needs to be concerned about flooding and now is the time to make corrections.

Has Ortonville and Big Stone City become the new Browns Valley.

In observing the diversion project in Browns Valley the other day, I wondered if having more water move through the flood plain at a faster rate had something to do with the lake level being so high this year?
