The Northern South Dakota NFL District Student Congress was held at the Capitol Building in Pierre on Thursday and Friday, April 15th and 16th. Eleven Milbank High School students filled the quota representing the local NFL chapter.
Each school gets two senators. Representing MHS were Amanda Lambrechts, senior and John Ward, sophomore. For the session on Thursday, both of these speakers were among the top seven. Amanda was named to top speaker in the Senate for that day and received the Outstanding Speaker award. Amanda was included in the top seven speakers for the second session as well. From the two days, the seven top speakers are noted and are the finalists for being able to represent Northern South Dakota at nationals in Kansas City this summer. Amanda was one of the two who will represent our district. John was named the third alternate.
Based on the local chapter size, schools are allotted representatives and MHS had 9--three in each of the three houses. In House 1 were senio--Josh Grabow, junior--Brent Seehafer, and freshman--Katie Loutsch. All three did a great job and scored many points. Brent was a finalist for the right to advance to nationals and was named the third alternate.
In House Number 2 were Junior--Jacob Manlove, Sophomore--Jesse Nelson, and freshman--Allwin McDonald. Both Jacob and Jesse were among the top seven of the speakers for the two sessions. Jacob was named the first alternate for nationals in this house while Jesse was fourth alternate.
In House Number 3 were Junior--Mitch Wagner, Sophomore--Tim Whelan, and freshma--Nathaniel Steinlicht. Tim was one of the top seven speakers and is the fourth alternate to nationals.
This ends the regular season for MHS Forensics. "It was a very nice way to close out the year as all students scored good points and participated well in their groups."
