PostSubject: People are getting informed about cafos-at last!   Fri Sep 24, 2010 8:41 am

I read a lot of periodicals from a lot of different places. Conventional farm magazines, trade publications of all sorts, Eco/Ag, gardening, philosophical (but aren't they all?)etc.
I have been encouraged to see more and more 'ladies magazines' are featuring articles about cafos and GMOs. This is very important since women still make the bulk of the food purchasing decisions.
In conventional farm publications there is much moaning and groaning about how the average consumer has no understanding of agriculture. Two points: They are learning and they do not like what they see. Industrial agriculture types have lost touch with the consumer even more than the consumers have lost touch with agriculture.
Most consumers say they would like to see food containing GMOs clearly labelled. Industrial ag is emphatically against this. If GMOs are so great, what are they afraid of?
A few months ago, one ag publication had a cover of a giant lady pushing a cart through a field and little farmers scampering like gophers out of her way. Most articles in these type of publication have no respect for the consumer who they portray as elitist and/or uninformed about what it really takes to grow food.
Consumers are waking up and pushings for better methods of production. Industrial ag is pushing back by sneering at their customers.
What will happen next?
