The office hours for the Big Stone County Veterans Service Office are 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. My office phone number is (320) 839-6398.

The results of the 72nd Annual Ortonville Cornfest Outreach efforts are in!

Number of veterans who stopped by the booth 43.

Number of appointments scheduled 7.

Number of Business cards handed out to include the Parade on Sunday 500.

Number of U.S. Flag lapel pins handed out 300.

The Parade on Sunday was awesome. A truly great turnout! I want to extend my deepest appreciation to all those who stopped out my Outreach Booth and attended the Parade. The Ortonville Cornfest is one fantastic annual event. Let’s work together and make next year’s Cornfest even better than this year’s!!!!

In the “Do you Know?” segment. Do you know what DIC is? DIC stands for Dependency Indemnity Compensation.

DIC is a monthly benefit paid to eligible survivors of a military service member who died while on active duty, active duty for training, or inactive duty training, OR a veteran whose death resulted from a service-related injury or disease, OR veteran whose death resulted from a non service-related injury or disease, and who was receiving, or was entitled to receive, VA Compensation for service-connected disability that was rated as totally disabling for at least 10 years immediately before death, OR since the veteran’s release from active duty and for at least five years immediately preceding death, OR for at least one year before death if the veteran was a former prisoner of war who died after September 30, 1999.

For eligibility guidelines, please call or stop by my office.

Until next week, take care and “Fair Winds and Following Seas!”
