PostSubject: Great Attendance at Sen. Klobuchar Event   Mon Nov 15, 2010 10:38 am

By: Dan Meyer

The office hours for the Big Stone County Veterans Service Office are 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. My office phone number is (320) 839-6398.

I want to thank all the veterans and civilians who attended Senator Amy Klobuchar’s visit to our County on the 12th of November, at the Ortonville VFW. Senator Klobuchar is a true veteran’s advocate and is committed to making sure that our veterans are recognized for their military service to this great Nation.

Senator Klobuchar presented the Flag of the United States of America that was flown over the United States Capitol. A Certificate for the Flag was also presented to the Big Stone County Veterans on behalf of their service to the United States of America.

I will be purchasing (with outreach grant dollars) a shadow box for the U.S. Flag and the accompanying Certificate for display. This the shadow box will be displayed at the County Courthouse for all county residence to enjoy, and be present for display at future veteran’s Outreach events.

All Big Stone County residents should be very proud of our veterans. Freedom is not free, it comes with a price!!!!

In other news. Veterans Affairs (VA) to Fast Track to claims for Agent Orange exposure.

VA has announced an aggressive new initiative to solicit private-sector input on a proposed “fast track” veterans’ claims process for service-connected presumptive illnesses due to Agent Orange exposure during the Vietnam War. They affect veterans with Parkinson’s disease, ischemic heart disease, and B-cell leukemias. In practical terms, veterans covered by the “presumptive of service-connection” don’t have to prove an association between their medical problems and military service.

Until next week, take care and “Fair Winds and Following Seas!”
