Tuesday, election day, was filled with anxiety  as people around the country were waiting to see who would elected.
Wednesday was a day of great rejoicing by some whee and disappointment by others. no no no

My congratulations to President Elect Obama on his winning the election and to all the other winners in every corner of America. applause

I am looking forward to the next four years with optimism and hope. cheers

Keep in mind that our duty as citizens doesn't end at the voting booth. Let us pray for our governing officials and be participants in our government in the coming years, not just spectators. janitor

PostSubject: McCain   President Elect Obama Icon_minitimeThu Nov 06, 2008 11:52 am

It was a late night Tuesday night (into Weds morning) for me. I stayed up to watch the returns. I was equally impressed with the President Elect's acceptance speech as much as I was with Senator McCain's speech.

The country should be proud to have citizens willing to run for office. I commend them both.
applause

President Elect Obama Empty
PostSubject: Bloody, then buddies: It's still the American way   President Elect Obama Icon_minitimeSun Nov 09, 2008 10:03 am

I read this wonderful article on Yahoo from Associated Press writer Ted Anthony.

He was talking about how in America we may staunchly proclaim our candidate but when it is over we accept it.

Some of the comments that most impressed me were as follows:

Bloody, then buddies: It's still the American way
By TED ANTHONY, AP National Writer – Sat Nov 8, 1:42 pm ET

...Lock Haven, a community of 9,000, is home to Kim Saar, a staunch "Republican all the way" who backed McCain and wonders how an Obama presidency could play out. Kim Saar, who — in the latest chapter of a 216-year American political tradition — supports the outcome of an election that didn't go her way.
"It's the way society is," says Saar, an underwriter for American Dream Mortgages just off Main Street. "We were all raised to accept it."
After so many months of rancor and debate, of Americans dividing into political tribes and demonizing the other guy, the days following a presidential election can be odd ones. Applying brakes to the trajectory of campaign fervor and deciding when Republicans and Democrats become simply Americans again is an intricate, delicate process.
Yet for all the extended bluster, reconciling after casting our votes is something we do well and in a calm manner envied by the rest of the world. Kind of astounding for a nation that built itself from scratch in 1776 by violently separating from a monarch's rule.
"It's still amazing that one day Bush will leave the White House and go home and be a private citizen, and Obama will be president, and there will not be a revolution in the streets," says presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, whose book "Team of Rivals" chronicled Abraham Lincoln's efforts to create post-election unity by including political adversaries in his Cabinet.
The alternative is bloodshed. In Zimbabwe, for example, the ugly, violent aftermath of presidential elections this year has pushed the country even further into chaos. The list goes on: Macedonia. East Timor. The Philippines. Kenya.
Here, though, the first moments after the outcome was certain on Election Night were filled with the language of reconciliation so absent in the campaign's heated final weeks. Obama was generous in victory, McCain gracious and eloquent in defeat. The message: country first.
Said the winner: "In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people. ... While the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress."
Said the loser: "It's natural, tonight, to feel some disappointment. But tomorrow, we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again."
In short order, President Bush invited the Obamas to the White House. Transition teams kicked into gear. No one took up arms. Even Elisabeth Hasselbeck on "The View," who ardently supported McCain, said she would "jump in that line and support our president." With scattered ugly exceptions, playing nice swiftly became the dominant narrative — even more so at a moment when a war overseas and hard times at home can grease the wheels of unity.
"We express ourselves and we move on. And I don't think America is a particularly angry nation. There's an awful lot of value placed on community and commonality," says Sheenah Hankin, a New York City psychotherapist who studies conflict resolution.
The amity probably won't last, though. Nor should it.
Gathering around the national campfire to sing "Kumbaya" would be neither realistic nor beneficial to the national interest. The campaign's gaping divides revealed fundamental divisions in American society — how we should run the economy, how we should interact with the world, what role government has in people's lives. That requires, in the words of former Bush Secretary of State Colin Powell, "competing in that typical American way, which is hard-fought."
"You fight for your position. It's what our founding fathers intended," Powell said on CNN the day after Election Day. "They wanted a clash of ideas, and from that clash of ideas the people are informed and the people make their choice."
We can't live with us, can't live without us. At times, the juxtaposition of spluttering invective and community warmth gives America the feel of a dysfunctional family — Mom and Dad arguing, then making nice in front of the kids.
And, in fact, it kind of is.
"Some things were said that probably shouldn't have been said," says Howard Markman, co-director of the Center for Marital and Family Studies at the University of Denver.
"That's exactly what people do in marital conflicts. We assassinate each other's character, we throw zingers. But most people want to save their marriages," he says. "What makes for a healthy, successful marriage also makes for a healthy, successful country."
Rapprochement may not always be overt, but it is present...

It's hard to quantify why this is. It may be because, unlike many nations, ours is an experiment founded specifically to chase dreams and shape ideals of self-determination. We may be of, by and for the people, but the notion is embedded deep in the American identity that it's about more than just one guy or one election. For a society obsessed with outcomes, perhaps we revere process more than we know.

I also found a comment made by Sarah Palin, as quoted by AP writer Dan Joling as being noteworthy:

By DAN JOLING, Associated Press Writer – Sat Nov 8, 7:07 am ET

Asked if she felt muzzled by her limited time with reporters during the campaign, Palin said the media is a cornerstone of democracy and an important part of the checks and balances on government.
"Heaven forbid that a candidate or an elected official shy way from speaking to the media," she said.

“It is IMPOSSIBLE for black people to be RACIST because black people do not have access to the levels of POWER.”

http://thefreshxpress.com/2010/02/can-black-people-be-racist-by-definition/
http://www.trojanhorse1.com/excerpt.htm

Think about that statement. Would black people accept success and power if it was available to them? I am afraid not, according to that statement, because then they would be capable of being racist.

Defenders of black racialism respond that one cannot compare black racial affirmation with its white counterpart, since one group is powerless and one is powerful. (The extreme version of this argument is that blacks cannot be racists.) But this response locks blacks in a permanently reactive stance, enshrining victimhood as their defining characteristic.

http://www.salon.com/april97/tiger970430.html

It wasn't the white people that prevented black people from succeeding, it was black people telling the black people that racism exists, that they can not succeed and most importantly it isn't their fault. The black community can fail and blame it all on forces outside of their control. The easy way out.

http://www.scragged.com/articles/more-racism-needed-says-new-black-attorney-general.aspx

One of the biggest concerns most conservatives had about a Barack Obama presidency was that any criticism of him or his policies would be reported by liberal media members as an act of racism.

Sadly, such fears ended up actually being understated, for since Inauguration Day, the left-wing punditry have routinely depicted anyone with the guts to question the new President -- from Tea Party goers to town hall meeting protesters -- as wearing white robes and burning crosses on folks' lawns.

Obama's the precipitate of this period of racial turbulence, not the victim.

He used the race card to defeat Hillary Clinton in the primaries, and did it again to win the White House. Even former President Clinton said this about candidate Obama, several times in fact.

More importantly, when President Obama was faced with his first racial issue during the Gates-Crowley episode, he haplessly enflamed the situation by saying the Cambridge police acted stupidly.

President Elect Obama Empty
PostSubject: Re: President Elect Obama   President Elect Obama Icon_minitimeMon Sep 13, 2010 6:15 pm

One year ago, on 9/9/09, we heard a prominent individual finally speak plainly, with a national audience able to witness it live. Representative Joe Wilson (R, SC) proudly and disgustedly uttered “You Lie!” when he could take no more of patent falsehoods being spewed as policy and agenda.

Then, like Joe The Plumber a year before, Joe the People’s Representative was roundly castigated for simply asserting the truth. Democrats, and other liberals too, roundly howled about how decorum was so essential in the supposedly hallowed halls of the U.S. Congress. It was a twilight zone week, as if Democrats and other liberals had never interrupted any conservative’s speech. And then the wimpy, weak-kneed Republican leadership joined in. The Republican response was typical RINO behavior, inexplicably afraid of getting any bad press from the USA’s overtly partisan liberal media. It was a piling-on, a session akin to loosing all the jackals of hell. And Joe Wilson found he had to apologize.

It was the same playbook used by Stalin and Mao and Ho Chi Minh: turn up the torture or other pressures to have the accused admit and confess, to give legitimacy to the accusations – truth be damned. But regardless whether it’s been right or wrong, it’s true that liberals have had a way of hypocritically forcing conservatives into apologizing for behavior that liberals themselves are guilty of in spades, though media hype would never let anybody remember it. Indeed, liberals have sometimes even forced their opposition to apologize for the nerve of simply daring to be politically conservative. Then, as the concluding moral of “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence” reveals: “When the lie becomes the truth, print the lie.”

But Joe Wilson’s “You Lie!” has resonated. Ordinary Americans agree. Tea Parties surged. Conservatives have organized beyond the beginnings in the Free Republic crowd of a decade ago. Even ordinary polling shows Americans are fed up with lies upon lies. Why? How? It’s actually very simple, though liberals would never fully understand it; ‘relative morality’ doesn’t see a big deal with telling lies, when the lies advance the liberal agenda. Yet, in objective reality, where most Americans live, lies succeed only so long before they mutually contradict enough that any person with half a memory will finally see through the façade. Then, the liberals’ Potempkin Village is finally seen not as the pretense of a real village, but as the cheating, deceptive, patronizing, and embezzling false fronts that the supposed real constructions always were.

President Elect Obama Empty
PostSubject: Re: President Elect Obama   President Elect Obama Icon_minitimeMon Sep 13, 2010 7:08 pm

Those two words coming from a Congressman were both necessary and long overdue.
Rep. Wilson's heckling of a President by Congress in joint session has precedent: Democrats booed President George W. Bush during a State of the Union address in 2005 and Republicans did the same to President Clinton in 1993. Some even walked out. Wednesday's event was not even a State of the Union Address, only a joint-session of Congress, and Wilson had every right in that chamber to protest the President speaking falsely on health-care reform to the Congress and the American people.
Call it "Joe Wilson's war" or call it patriot dissent, but when the South Carolina Congressman shouted "You lie!" to the President, he was fulfilling his oath to defend the Constitution. Defending democracy in America deserves more "Joe Wilsons," not fewer.

White House Quietly Admits Joe Wilson Was Correct.

On Thursday, some people said Wilson was right in challenging Obama's statement.
"It is a real shame that the rest of Congress was not on their feet pointing out the president's lie about illegal aliens in his healthcare plans," said William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration, a political action committee.

Barack Obama -- Taking liberties with the truth
July 6, 2010
Here's short a list of lies:
1. "You'll be able to keep the health insurance you have now."
2. "It's not about big government. It's about smart government."
3. "I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon."
4. "We cannot continue government borrowing at the present pace."
5. "I am a post-partisan."
6. "There will be no tax increases on anyone making less than $250,000."
7. "I will be President of all the people."

The healthcare bill won't fund abortions? Lie! It will! (AP Confirms Health Bill Radically Opens Federal Funds to Abortion) No death panels? Then what provision did Democrats take out of the bill to say its no longer in there? You can keep your private insurance? Only if it doesn't change. Otherwise you are automatically funneled into the government plan. Lie! Does not fund healthcare for illegal immigrants? Lie! Fact is, there is no provision in the bill to check whether one is illegal or not! So what good is language that illegal immigrants won't be covered when there is no way to check? In fact, the Democrats shot down an amendment that would have required e-verify checks on citizenship! Lies, lies and more lies! Rep. Wilson was right - Obama lied right through his teeth last night with much hubris.

Joe Wilson is Right, Obama is a Liar
The Woodward Report | September 10, 2009 | Brian Woodward
Not only is the President lying about not paying for illegal aliens health care, he has been caught lying before.

http://www.thewoodwardreport.com/#/obamaisaliar/4535567558

There are a number of theories about why America's greatest living statesman shouted "You lie!" at that juncture, but mine is that Wilson said it because Obama told a big, fat stinking lie.
Every single American knows it's a lie. But liberals take pleasure in repeating it -- and then condescendingly accusing anyone who doesn't accept their lie of being a toothless, illiterate racist.
