Chamber of Commerce Membership? Empty
PostSubject: Chamber of Commerce Membership?   Chamber of Commerce Membership? Icon_minitimeWed Mar 25, 2009 11:56 am

I'm looking for information on how the chamber of commerce works and what they do for local business.

What does it take to join the chamber of commerce in your town?

Do they let .com companies join or only local business with a brick and mortar type presence?

For tax's and other reasons I started a company for our ApplianceJunk.com website, AJ Enterprises.

AJ Enterprises is registered with the State of South Dakota and we have a employer identification number (EIN) from the State of South Dakota.

Being we are located in Milbank, SD I would guess if it is a option for us to join the chamber of commerce it would have to be the Milbank chamber.

I could just call the Milbank chamber and ask, but I really wanted to hear from other Big Stone lake area business owners as to how the chamber works in your area?

Who can join the chamber?
What does the chamber do for you?
What does it cost to join the chamber?

The Chamber of Commerce is generally meant to promote business and support existing businesses. We belong to the BSLA Chamber and I have been disappointed. Lady Hawk can speak for herself.

In the one meeting I attended it was poorly run and I was treated as though I had leprosy. It was a very unfriendly and private group. They disapproved of this forum because this forum promoted responsible spending.

They also slighted another member by not giving her a chance to bid on some LED lights. That meant two of the six or seven businesses represented did not approve of the Chamber's handling of business.

You should also know that the Chamber had a video of what appeared to be a group of intoxicated people at a party.

If I were you I would stick to Milbank.

How do they go about that?

Would it even be a option to join any other Chamber of Commerce other then the Milbank Chamber of Commerce being we are located in Milbank?

Being a .com company I wonder how we would be excepted or even if we would be excepted.

Would there really be any advantage for use to join the Chamber of Commerce?

I was thinking joining the Chamber of Commerce could help us get our name out there on a local level.

Is there something the Chamber of Commerce could do for us that I could not do for my company myself?
