BY TERRY O’KEEFE

remember this article refers to 90 farms that are in a certain program, not a comprehensive survey of all farms. The farms in the program probably represent farms with particularly tough economic factors and so have come to the program to find the best solutions and do the best possible job of financial managment. I hope they all have a better year this year, although spring is late so far, heat units and good rains and good prices can make a difference. Farming is risky business and takes guts.

The mainstay of our economy right now is agriculture.

If you listen to what is being said in Washington D.C. you will hear things like we need year around school because we are no longer tied to agriculture.

I have also heard that there is a movement to stop farm subsidies so that we can support city entitlements.

We will have to watch what happens in Washington, D.C.
