FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Ortonville Police Department Awarded C.E.D.A.P. Grant

The Ortonville Police Department was recently awarded a 2008 Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (C.E.D.A.P.) Grant.

The Ortonville Police Department was one of 3,573 applications submitted throughout the United States, of these 1,045 applications were accepted.

Categories for the 2008 C.E.D.A.P. grant were as follows: Extrication Equipment, Vehicle Tracking Tools, Information Technology & Risk Management, Chemical – Biological – Radiological Detection Tools, and Thermal Imaging – Night Vision – Video Surveillance Tools.

The Ortonville Police Department applied for and was awarded a Thermal Imaging Camera.

During this application process applicants had to demonstrate that the equipment would be used to improve their capability and capacity to respond to a major critical incident or to work with other 1st responders in their respective area.

In February, 2009 Officer Jason Mork was provided training in Washington DC for two days with the equipment the department was awarded. Officer Mork stated, “Most everything was paid for by the grant including the two day training seminar, airline tickets, hotel room and meals.

Officer Mork stated that if the city would purchase this equipment and accessories that were awarded by the grant on our own it would cost approximately $20,000.00

Officer Mork stated, “This is a “win – win” for the City of Ortonville. “Not only can we use if for Search & Rescue, Fugitive Searches, Perimeter Surveillance and Officer Safety applications within our own department other city departments can also request our assistance with the thermal camera such as the fire department and electrical department as well as other area departments in the area that do not have access to such equipment.”

The C.E.D.A.P. grant is funded by the Department of Homeland Security & FEMA and administered by the US Army – Electronic Proving Ground – Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
