9. Recommendation of Citizen Boards.....
f. EDA Recommendation: EDA and City Council Concur to Re-Start Work Groups
g. EDA Recommendation: EDA Board Nominations-Burt Nypen, Blair Johnson, and a Representative from the Big Stone Lake Area Chamber

With all the activity of Blair Johnson and the outgoing councilmen it is surprising that this item was left for the incoming City Council to vote on. Perhaps it is a rule that cannot be avoided, that the incoming council votes on the new board members? Some people find rules annoying.

One of the things that the City Council voted on in their flurry of activity last month was Resolution 09-151 It is a resolution to retain Larson Allen Weishair & Co LLP to perform the city audit. How long has this company been doing the audit? The first mention of it in the minutes is January 8, 2007. Resolution 07-002. This is for the year that Blair Johnson became mayor. The first year of Blair Johnson's leadership. Interestingly this is also the company that did not audit the EDA.

Isn't this the same company that David Lang said did the EDA books? How usual is that for a company to be doing the EDA books and to audit the city books too? Why has Mr. Lang refused to produce the Profit and Loss Statement and the Balance Sheet for the EDA for about 6 months now?

Does the man who was voted out of office want to maintain his influence in the EDA? Is the EDA the organization in the City of Ortonville that boasted it had over $500,000 and hasn't produced a Balance Sheet or a Profit and Loss statement? One has to wonder "Who's in charge?"

PostSubject: When did the EDA Board recommend Blair Johnson?   Ortonville Agenda January 4, 2009 Icon_minitimeSun Jan 03, 2010 8:18 am

In the joint meeting of the Ortonville City Council and the EDA on Dec. 14, 2009 there is no mention of recommendations of Burt Nypen, Blair Johnson and a chamber member to the EDA Board. When did the EDA discuss this? There was an EDA Special Meeting for November 23, 2009 to discuss "EDA Strategic Planning." Did the EDA Board make the recommendation at that meeting? Is recommending Burt Nypen, Blair Johnson, and a chamber member part of a "Strategic Plan?"

Unfortunately it is difficult to access the previous EDA Board meetings to verify this recommendation because they are not on the internet nor are they posted to the local paper. The paper only prints the Ortonville City Council Minutes. My understanding is as it stands now all board meetings are turned into the city and you have to go in and request to see them.

I could ask David Lang for a copy but no telling how long that would take or how much it would cost considering the last request took about 5 months and cost me $150.00. I have tried to call him numerous times but he is never there. He has not replied to my email requesting he explain why I was charged $150.00, where are the missing minutes from the Jan 10, 2008 EDA meeting, and why hasn't he produced the Balance Sheet and the Profit and Loss Statement for the EDA.
