When one looks at the pattern of behavior of the Ortonville City Council, and the Ortonvillians who work behind the scenes and support them, you have to ask when will the axe fall. Keep in mind that the Ortonville City Council voted to purchase the Northside Medical Center on November 17, 2008 and it wasn't publically announced for about six weeks over the New Years holiday.
(See post on Northside Medical Center)

Could one also assume then that we could wake up one day and find that we have no Ortonville Police Department? Will we all wake up to find it is a done deal?

What we have here is a pattern of behavior. We have the Ortonville City Council openly declaring during budget cuts that we need to get rid of the police department. Then we have the Ortonville City Council dragging the Police Chief into a "closed executive session" under the auspices of "charges and allegations." Was this done to discredit the police department? Was this done to make the police department look bad so that they now have an excuse to dissolve the police department?

I absolutely agree with you. This little community can be a nasty behind the back community and the government is worse. Just look at the way past employees have been treated. Char Grossman just to name one. She did the job Dave Lang did and with fewer people. Now that Dave Lang's contract is on this site imagine what I was thinking about a month ago when Dave Lang hinted at a pay equity study. Now I am not a rocket scientist but I would bet the first thing an examiner would criticize the city for would be the favoritism to the male. What Dave Lang, in comparison to what the women have received, would definitely be written up.

No, I am wrong. Mr. Lang would write up a make believe job description up, send it to the League and have the city attorney approve it.

Reliable sources are saying that the police issue was contrived by the Mayor to discredit the police department so that the department could be discredited before John Cunningham leaves. He needs Cunningham's vote before John resigns. I hear that will be before the first of June.

If you listen to the Mayor on the radio he continues to believe that the attack on the police department was justified despite the fact the police commission cleared the Chief.

Despite the police commission ruling the radio has continued its blind support of the Mayor and it will be interesting to see what page the Ortonville Independent will bury the clearing of the police chief.

There was an agenda when this attack began and the mayor will not let the facts or the law stand in the way. If the Mayor can find the facts, Mr. Lang will do the minutes in a fashion that is a bold faced misrepresentation.

It was interesting at the meeting that Mr. Lang did not have any past minutes to pass. Perhaps there were too many people present to attempt to pass minutes that were inaccurate. I am quite sure that Ms. Grossman could take accurate minutes for a lower price and she wouldn't charge the city extra because she wants to work only 40 hours a week. The problem is Mr. Lang can't have her keep the notes and pay her less because that is a pay equity violation.

Bottom line is the three stooges want the police department shut down and the best interests of the city does not matter. so long as Mr. Lang, Mr. Ash and Mr. Johnson get paid. stooges

If something is a good idea, even if not a popular idea, the facts or logic will bear it out. If dumping the police dept (to divert budget to offsetting losses at the golf course) is a good idea, then the public has the right to hear the case. For those who will be making decisions as elected representatives to cut the public from the process is not public service, is not ethical, is not what they were elected to do, and is deceptive at best. Public trust? How about public outrage instead?
