Lawrence County seeks nuisance action against rural feedlot

The Lawrence County Commission voted Tuesday to seek nuisance actions against Two-Tone Cattle Company’s cattle feedlot about three miles north of Spearfish. The decision was prompted by the county’s decision to lower the property valuation of Alan and Marla Loken who live next to the feedlot. The Loken’s showed how having the concentrated cattle feeding operation next to their home has lowered their property value.

I hope this case prompts more Counties to be proactive about odor prevention. 2 miles away is not far enough away if something really stinks. Setbacks don't solve this problem.
