The Ortonville Rox traveled to Rosen Saturday to battle the Prior Lake Mudhens and came away with a nice 12-2 win over a very good team.

The locals finally got off to a good start. After giving up a run in the top of the first, they came back in the bottom of the inning, getting a leadoff single from John Thomas, followed by a walk to Jeff Watson. Joe Fuller then attempted a sacrifice bunt, which he beat out for a hit to load the bases. After a pop out to left field, Chris Fellows shot a double to right to plate two runs. Pete Ross then walked and Matt Fellows singled to plate two more runs.

Prior Lake tacked on a run in the third, but the Rox added two more in the fourth, five more in the fifth, and a single run in the sixth to end the game.

Leading hitters for the Rox were Chris Fellows with four hits; Thomas, Fuller, and Ross with two each; while Tim Haugen, Curt Schake, and Matt Fellows each got a hit. Pete Ross had four RBI on the day, while Chris and Matt Fellows each had three.

Chris Fellows threw a complete game, giving up two runs on six hits, while striking out nine.

“We really hit the ball quite well. Chris pitched a very nice game. It was a real good effort on our part. We had one bad inning on defense, and Matt Fellows came up with a diving stop at third and threw the runner out at first to end the inning,” stated Rox manager Ron Thomas.

The game scheduled for Sunday against Madison was rained out and will be made up on Friday night, July 10th at 8:00.

Next week the Rox travel to Milbank on Friday night for an 8:00 game, and then on Saturday Joe Fuller, Riley Sammon, Curt Schake, and John Thomas will be sent to Rosen to participate in the all-star game, with Chance Haugen taking part in the home run contest.

It should be a good time in Milbank on Friday night as they get ready for their annual festival. The all-star game, played in Rosen at 4:00 on Saturday, pitting the Teal League against the Wood League, should provide some real good baseball entertainment.
