Milbank High School speakers participated at the conference Student Congress contest in Groton on March 23rd. The Upper Dakota Forensic League had three experienced houses and two inexperienced houses this year.
In one of the experienced houses, Amanda Lambrechts won the Superior Speaker award. Brent Seehafer was Outstanding Presiding Officer in another experienced house. In one of the two inexperienced houses, Katie Loutsch was named Outstanding speaker while Emma Christensen won the Superior speaker award. In the other inexperienced house, Nathaniel Steinlicht captured the gavel for being the outstanding presiding officer while Allwin McDonald was named superior speaker.
Students competing in the Experienced Houses included Josh Grabow, Jacob Manlove, Mitch Wagner, John Ward, and Tim Whelan. A number of Inexperienced representatives 'maxed out' or received the most points that could be achieved in a session (24). In addition to the award winners were Camilla Oedling, Brandi Niedert, Jesse Nelson, Seth McDonald, Rachel Johannsen, and Sam Grorud. Also in the inexperienced houses were Mackenzie Foss,Kylie Hagen, Brock Rudebusch, Cheyenne Voeltz, and Rebecca Schrupp.
Friday students will be competing in Brookings at East River Congress and on Tuesday Milbank hosts a contest.
