The office hours for the Big Stone County Veterans Service Office are 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. My office phone number is (320) 839-6398.

A "Veteran" -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to, and including his or her life."
Attention Minnesota Women Veterans!

Are you a woman that has or is serving in the military and would like a “Battle Buddy” to accompany you to your Minneapolis VA Medical Center appointment(s)? If you can answer yes to this question, then there is a program to you. The program is called “Sister-Assister” and is sponsored by the Minnesota Women Veterans Initiative Working Group.

Sometimes it’s comforting to have somebody to be there with you. They have a group of female volunteers ready to assist you. If interested, please contact Jaimie Bahl at: 612-719-3631 or email at sr71bbfan@yahoo.com. Please include your name, phone/email, and date/time of your appointment.

In addition, they are on Facebook at: Women Veterans Initiative Working Group.

In more news.

Something to think about! It is important to remember our veterans who paid the “Ultimate Sacrifice.” Here are some statistics to think about.

American Civil War deaths 625,000 (599 per day), World War II deaths 405,399 (416 per day), World War I deaths 116,516 (279 per day), Vietnam War deaths 58,151 (26 per day), Korean War deaths 36,516 (45 per day), American Revolutionary War deaths 25,000 (11 per day), War of 1812 deaths 20,000 (31 per day), Mexican-American War deaths 13,283 (29 per day), Philippine-American War deaths 4,196 (5 per day), and Iraq War deaths from 2003 to present 4,382 (2 per day) and counting.

Until next week, take care and “Fair Winds and Following Seas!”
