PostSubject: John Cunningham, local Councilman, moving   Cunningham Icon_minitimeWed Mar 11, 2009 1:59 pm

It has been brought to my attention that Mr. John Cunningham, local Ortonville City Councilman, is moving from the area. This will leave a council seat vacant. I have not heard of who will replace him.

It will be interesting to see what will happen now knowing that there are issues regarding the budget cuts and the viability of the Ortonville Police Department. policeman

PostSubject: The Council by Resolution fills the position   Cunningham Icon_minitimeFri Mar 13, 2009 10:19 am

The City Charter states the following when a vacancy occurs:

Section 2.06. Vacancies. An elective office becomes vacant when the person elected or appointed thereto dies before taking office or fails to qualify, or the incumbent dies, resigns in writing filed with the city clerk-administrator, is convicted of a felony, ceases to reside in the city, or is adjudged incompetent by a court of competent jurisdiction. In each such case the council shall by resolution declare the vacancy to exist and shall forthwith appoint an eligible person to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term.

Does this mean that Mr. Cunningham gets to vote for his replacement, or do just the six remaining councilmen vote? scratch

It was mentioned that John Cunningham was leaving town. Has the council mentioned anything about his replacement? I don't remember a date being given when he was leaving.

PostSubject: Corruption in Government Depends on the Individual Elected   Cunningham Icon_minitimeWed May 06, 2009 9:26 pm

Corruption in Government Depends on the Individual Elected to office. Each of us carry a value system that will make good positive decisions after we are elected.

For instance, next week John Cunningham has announced his resignation and has announced that he will be leaving Ortonville. He will not have any long term ties to the community.

For that reason it would seem that he would not vote on any long term resolutions for the city.

The quality of the man is judged on decisions he makes.

Good luck, John, in the future. May you be treated as you treated others. I hope others treat you with respect even though you treated Mr. Horman with a lack of respect.

May you learn from others who took a higher road.
