The Ortonville Rox traveled to Milbank on Friday night, and behind the solid pitching of Joe Fuller came away with a 9-0 win and a season sweep over Milbank. Joe threw seven innings, giving up no runs on four hits, while striking out six. Chance Haugen finished the game, going the final two innings and giving up no runs on one hit and striking out one.
The locals got off to another good start, scoring five runs in the first inning and tacking on two more in the second. Single runs in the sixth and ninth innings would finish off the scoring to complete the 9-0 win. The win raises the Rox overall record to 10 wins and 3 losses on the season, and 6 wins and 2 losses in league play. The locals continue to be tied with Benson for the lead in the Teal League.
Leading hitters on the night were Haugen and Curt Schake with two hits each, while Riley Sammon, Cory Stattelman, John Thomas, Jeff Watson, and Chris Fellows each had a hit.
The all-star game took place on Saturday in Rosen, with the Teal League hosting the Wood League. It was a well played game, with the Wood League coming out on top by the score of 3-2. Participating in the game for the Rox were Schake, Fuller, Sammon, Thomas, and Haugen. Rox manager Ron Thomas was the all-star team manager, assisted by Mickey Rademacher of the Rosen Express. Haugen was to be the Rox’s participant in the home run hitting contest, but wind and rain forced the cancellation of the contest.
Coming up this week the Rox will host Canby on Friday, June 26th at 8:00 p.m., and then the locals travel to Rosen on the 4th of July for a 2:30 game.
Hope to see you at the ball park on Friday night. It would be much appreciated by the team to get a good crowd.
