From Tom Taylor:
We should have community gardens in town, better lunches for our schools and hospitals and nursing homes. What would happen if there was an emergency of some kind that caused people to not be able to get food from the usual source? How can we get more farmers to grow for local markets?
Those are just a few of the ideas and questions from the November 17th meeting where over 60 engaged people came together to make food choices for all healthier in the Big Stone Lake area.
On THIS Tuesday, February 9th, we will meet to find concrete ways to improve everyone's access to healthy food and WE WANT YOU THERE to help us do that!
This meeting will be at the Veterans Memorial Building, in Clinton, MN at 5:00 PM on Tuesday Feb. 9th. A light meal will be served. Please call to let us know you are coming so we can have food for all or if you have any questions; 877-328-9419.
Come chime in to help decide the best way to increase the community's access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Big Stone Lake Local Foods Group is working in partnership with Land Stewardship Project, University of Minnesota Extension, the University of Minnesota?s West Central Partnership, Crossroads Resource Center to find ways to improve everybody access to healthy food. We are exploring how local farmers, gardeners, community gardening projects, grocers and other food outlets can help people improve their access to healthy food, including high quality fruits, vegetables and pasture raised meats. The Project is supported in part by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota as part of Prevention Minnesota, Blue Cross' long-term health improvement initiative that is working to tackle the root causes of preventable heart disease and cancer.
