Big Stone County Fair dates set for August 4-8, New Carnival signed.

The dates for the 2010 Big Stone County Fair have been set for August 4-8. This date is about one month later than recent fairs, and this change is necessary to accommodate a new carnival for 2010. The Fairboard is pleased to announce that a contract has been signed with Crescent City Amusements which is based out of Slidell, LA. The Fair is always looking to increase both the quantity and quality of rides and we feel that this is a move in the right direction. Crescent City will have numerous rides for ALL ages and has a very clean, well run, family friendly carnival. The carnival will be open on Wednesday and continue through Sunday with several Armband specials throughout the fair.

The Fair will have a booth at the Ortonville Sports and Leisure show this weekend and everyone is invited to stop by and sign up for hourly drawings for free grandstand tickets. Due to the great success of the Raffle last year, another one will be held in 2010 and tickets will go on sale at the booth this weekend. Raffle tickets will be $20 each with only 250 being sold. In total, $2500 in cash will be given away with a top prize of $1000. The drawing will be held at 5:30 PM on Sunday, August 8th. Please consider helping to support the Fair as we deal with the rising costs of entertainment and other expenses. Fairboard members will also have tickets available for sale so feel free to contact your local board member.

The Fair also hopes to begin Advance Sale ride tickets for Crescent City Amusements at the Sports and Leisure show this weekend. Advance sale tickets will cost $25 for a strip of 20 tickets which is $1.25 per ticket. All rides will take only ONE advance sale ticket which is a great deal and there is not another carnival in the area with a better advance sale plan. Tickets purchased during the Fair will cost about $1 per ticket and will take 2-4 tickets per ride so advance sale is a tremendous savings. Also, all of the advance sale ticket money the Fair collects is used to offset the guarantee money the Fair pays to the Carnival when the contract is signed. In contrast, the Fair only receives a very small percentage of the money from tickets sold by the Carnival during the fair. Buying advance sale ride tickets insures that the money you spend is being returned to the Fair and you will get the best deal available.

The Fairboard has been working since the 2009 Fair ended to put together another fun-filled event for everyone. Many of the familiar grandstand events are returning this year and a lot of great entertainment is being finalized for the free entertainment stage. Planned Grandstand events for 2010 include the Antique & Stock Tractor Pull, Enduro Car Racing, Paintball Tournament, and the ever popular Demolition Derbies. There will be 5 classes of Demo this year: Combines, Full Size Weld, Compact, Pick-Up, and the 80’s Chain Stock class. If you have questions about the Demolition Derbies or would like entry forms, please contact Travis Fitzner.

The local 4-H youth have been working hard all year on their projects and are looking forward to displaying their efforts at the Fair. Also, it is never too early to start planning your open class exhibits. Open class exhibiting allows adults and children an opportunity to exhibit their hobby work and win prizes.

The Big Stone Olde Power & Machinery Club will have their exhibit again this year and it is a great collection of machinery from yesteryear of just about every brand and color.

The Commercial Exhibits, Medallion Hunt, Bingo, Kids Pedal Pull, Diaper Derby, Coin Dig, Big Stone Idol, Talent Show along with all that great Fair food will provide for a jam-packed weekend which we hope everyone will enjoy.

The Big Stone County Fair fan page is now live on Facebook and will be your source for the most up to date fair news. There are already many pictures on the site and will be a valuable resource for the public to interact with the Fairboard. Comments and questions are encouraged! The page has had a fantastic response so far and everyone is invited to become a “fan” of the fair and please ask your friends to do the same. Also, our website www.bscfair.org is a great source of information and registration forms. It is still being updated with 2010 information but please keep checking back as additions are made. If you have any questions or comments about the Fair, please contact Fair Secretary Bruce Wellendorf at 320-273-2200.

The 2009 Fair was a great success and 2010 is looking to be bigger and better. Make plans to attend the Big Stone County Fair in Clinton on August 4-8, 2010!
