Milbank nurse receives March of Dimes award

Registered nurse Joan Frerichs of Milbank was recently named the 2008 South Dakota March of Dimes Nurse of the Year. The award is given by the March of Dimes to recognize a nurse who is committed to maternal and child health nursing, exhibits compassion for her patients and families, serves as a role model for other nurses and participates in community or organizational activities.
Joan has been a nurse for 29 years, spending 28 of those years with the South Dakota Department of Health as Grant County Community Health Nurse in Milbank. She received her award during the 33rd annual South Dakota Perinatal Association Conference September 18-19 in Pierre. In addition to her award, Joan received a year’s membership in the association.
