MINNEAPOLIS TRIBUNE JOINS OTHER WRITTEN PRESS IN CONSIDERING BANKRUPTCY FILING! Shocked

The written press is near the end of an era! Even the Ortonville Dependent depends on its source of income on the very people they should be criticizing! Suspect

May I suggest that the reason the Ortonville Dependent does not criticize the Mayor is that the City in its legal notices spends a lot of money at the Ortonville Dependent making this newspaper dependent on income from the city.

This weeks paper is void of news yet the Ortonville city council is fighting with Big Stone City over water. The Hockey Association is fighting with residents from Milbank and turned down an offer to build an indoor arena in Big Stone City.

One of the goals of this communication is to educate Ortonville and its leadership that a spirit of healthy debate, constructive criticism and a willingness to admit of past errors will create a better community.

Big Stone City and Milbank openly discuss issues and these communities are open minded and moving in a more successful direction.

An example in the forum is where people do not hear what they want to hear and threaten not to go to this site. Such behavior is what Ortonville is famous for.

As for the rest of us we believe in a mature, open and honest approach and want to hear both sides. Keep up the debate and become educated to both sides of an issue. The United States Constitution was created by this type of dialogue. Thomas Jeffersson encouraged debate. George Washington encouraged debate. Abraham Lincoln encouraged debate.

Adolph Hitler discouraged debate. Chavez discourages debate. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad discourages debate.

All of the communities listed in this geographic area having something to offer and Ortonville needs to quit thinking they belong to an exclusive club.

Ortonville it is time to learn from your South Dakota brothers and sisters and learn to get along with your neighbors. cheers :study: :study:

:study: The printed press is old and outdated. I can't imagine the costs of running a newspaper and with sites like this by the time the newspaper is on the shelf the newspaper is reporting old news.

On this site I have seen actual court documents and actual interviews while the newspaper slants the news.

The ability of the written press to slant news is over. The internet provides real news while the newspaper interprets the news.

I agree that the cost of running a newspaper is expensive, and more and more people are getting their news from the internet. The Trib is no different than the Pioneer Press in making large cuts in their operation.

Reading the internet news is no different than 'reading the newspaper', watching television, or listening to the radio -- the news is slanted in all mediums. It just takes a wise person search for the 'truth'.

A weekly newspaper in Rapid City is the latest example of weekly newspapers in small communities failing. A trend that may not be able to be reversed.

That to bad.

I think the only hope they have is to try and catch up with technology and start printing there paper online.

With the budgets they have to work with and there knowledge of how to go about doing such a things I don't think it will ever happen for many small community papers.
