Wendy's Chili Empty
PostSubject: Wendy's Chili   Wendy's Chili Icon_minitimeFri Nov 07, 2008 9:28 pm

This is really good and does taste like the chili at Wendy's. The only thing different I do is that I drain and rinse both the kidney beans and the pinto beans and simply add 2 cans of water.

Enjoy!

Wendy's Chili
Copy Cat Recipe – Tastes like the real thing

2 Lbs. ground beef
1 29 oz can tomato sauce
one 29 oz. can kidney beans (with liquid)
one 29 oz can pinto beans (with liquid)
1 cup diced onion (one medium)
1/2 cup diced green chili (2 chilies)
1/4 cup diced celery (1 stalk)
3 medium tomatoes, chopped
2 tsp. cumin powder
3 Tbs. chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper
2 tsp. salt
2 cups water

Brown the beef in a skillet over medium heat; drain off the fat. Using a fork, crumble the cooked beef into pea-size pieces. In a large pot, combine the beef plus all the remaining ingredients, and bring to a simmer over low heat. Cook, stirring ever 15 minutes, for 2 to 3 hours.

I went to sample at a local chili cookoff this year, and I was astounded that if I had entered the contest I should have beaten all the gringo chili around here.

For a quick pot of your favorite Chili, open a can of Butter Kernel Chili Beans in Chili Sauce and your preferred brand of whole peeled tomatoes. Combine Butter Kernel with your own special ingredients. Heat, stir and serve this family pleasing favorite.

Here’s a special Butter Kernel recipe.

PIPESTONE CHILI

2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 pound coarse ground beef for chili
˝ pound hot Italian sausage
1 medium onion, chopped
2 small cloves garlic, minced
1 can (16 oz.) whole tomatoes, undrained and cut-up
1 cup water
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons chopped green chilies
1 tablespoon each chili powder, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce
1 can (15 oz.) Chili Beans with Chili Sauce, undrained

DIRECTIONS

Heat oil in 3-quart pan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Cook meat, onion and garlic in oil until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in all remaining ingredients except Chili Beans with Chili Sauce. Reduce heat and simmer 15 to 20 minutes to blend flavors. Stir in Chili Beans with Chili Sauce. Cook 10 minutes longer. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve over cooked noodles topped with sour cream, or serve in bowl garnished with tortilla chips and sour cream. 4 to 5 servings.

I once had some Bloody Mary Mix I wanted to use up, and I put maybe some taco seasoning powder and some ketchup with it and made chili, and it wasn’t bad.

[color=darkblue]Food is subjective - what one person will like, the next won't. Some of us cannot tolerate the 'hot' and 'spicy' and have to adapt recipes in order to be able to enjoy various foods.

When the Chili Cook Off rolls around next year at Corn Fest -- enter. It's open to anyone. If you don't feel you want to participate in Ortonville for some reason, Watertown SD also has an annual Chili Cook Off you could enter. It is usually a week or two before Corn Fest. You can probably do a good search and find the exact date and specific information.

I have FIRST HAND knowledge that the voting is not RIGGED in anyway, and everyone has a fair chance in winning.

I've attend the cookoff in the past and have enjoyed the chili. I admire those that are willing to try their hand at it!
