Large feedlots continue to grow and cause problems between neighbors and are environmentally unsafe. It is time to be friendly to our environment to protect our children's future.')" class="postlink" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Large Feedlots, they are not environmentally safe Icon_sunny

It would be interesting to hear more about this issue. Detective

There have been some things written about it in the Milbank paper but I would like to know more about the particular issues involved in detail. Does anyone have any input on that?

My understanding now is that a petition is going to be passed around to gain the signatures needed to bring it back before the County. judge

PostSubject: Federal Government has intervened in a number of states   Large Feedlots, they are not environmentally safe Icon_minitimeMon Sep 08, 2008 7:44 pm

The Federal government has intervened and caused states and counties to handle environmental impacts from these feedlots. Large feedlots over 1000 animal units are controlled by the Federal Environmental Agency and Federal Environmental impact statements must be completed. That is the reason many of these feedlot owners opt for just under 1000 animal units.

Reading between the lines, county and state governments need to be as detailed as the federal government.

Also Economic development's most prized goal is increasing population. Increasing jobs and populations increases money spend and increases solid rural economies.

If we take two farm families and merge these farms into one we lose one farm family decreasing population and hurting the local economy. This is what caused the federal government to intervene in the farm crisis because federal policies encouraged large farms instead of family farms.

Large feedlots for a variety of reasons are contrary to public policy.
