CVSO Article due 3 April 2009

By: Dan Meyer
The office hours for the Lac qui Parle County Veterans Service Office are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. My office phone number is (320) 598-3445.

The American Flag at the Lac qui Parle County Courthouse will be flown this week in honor of Harold Reinhold Jerpseth. Harold was a PFC in the U.S. Army, who served our nation proudly during World War II. He was born on 15 January 1909 and passed away on 6 August 1997. When you go past the front of our beautiful County Courthouse this week, take the time to look up at our Nation's Flag and remember Harold's sacrifice to the United States of America. Mr. Harold Reinhold Jerpseth, a true American hero, because freedom isn't free.

Flash News. St. Cloud VA Awards Contract for Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Alexandria, Minnesota.

The St. Cloud VA Medical Center has awarded to a Moniclair Commons, LLC, of Alexandria, Minnesota, for construction and a 10-year lease of a new Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Alexandria.

The Clinic, which will be located at 610 22nd Avenue East in Alexandria, will provide primary care to an estimated 3,500 veterans in Central Minnesota. A variety of additional VA services will also be available including mental health, clinical pharmacy, laboratory, nutrition services, and home-based primary care for those veterans who are eligible for that service.

"The Alexandria area was identified as a priority for a new clinic as part of the VA's effort to reach rural and medically underserved veteran populations. We are pleased to be moving forward with this effort to serve veterans in the Alexandria area," said Barry Bahl, Medical Center Director.

The Clinic will be staffed with more than 16 VA staff members. Professional staff will include physicians, an advanced practice nurse, a pharmacist, a psychologist, a social worker, a registered dietitian and several registered nurses. Other positions include clinical and administrative support personnel.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the site of the new clinic at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16. The public is welcome to attend.

Any questions may be directed to Public Affairs Officer/Supervisor, Veteran and Community Service of the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, Joan Vincent at (320) 255-6381.

Until next week, take care and "Fair Winds and Following Seas!"
