Big Stone City Approves Preliminary Plat with little or no controversy.

In a move which generates a move to the future, Big Stone City Council approved the Lakeview Plat.

The councilmen and women and others present were cordial and positive. Big Stone City's suburb to the east should take note on how to run a meeting.

The councilmen were all polite and asked appropriate questions. They did not attack and dealt with the issues even-handed.

They even encouraged citizens to speak at the meeting without setting a limit, or making the public feel that the council was inconvenienced by public input.

Great Job! Keep up the good work.

One thing that struck me about this city council meeting was the actions of the city attorney. When the council voted on a measure he told the council that they need to inform the public with a public notice. Later when a guest asked a question about whether or not a measure passed he informed him that the documentation was not all there and listed what documents were still needed to have the measure pass and where they could go to get the documentation. The city attorney was very professional and informed. He answered questions and never onced said that he would look into it and get back to you. The City Attorney in Big Stone City knew his job. Perhaps I would not have been so impressed if I hadn't been attending city council meetings in Ortonville and watched time and again the city attorney there refer to checking into it and "will get back to you later."

The City Attorney in Big Stone City is one they can be sure they are getting their money's worth out of. He listens to the people talking and speaks up on legal issues when he sees they need to be addressed. He's no "potted plant."
