The Ortonville Rox defeated the Canby Knights on Friday night by the score of 11-4, and then on the 4th of July went down to Rosen and lost 2-0.
On a wet and rainy Friday night, Canby took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, only to have the Rox come back and score six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-2 lead. The locals added two runs in the 5th, two more in the 6th, and one in the 8th, while Canby scored one run in the 5th and one in the top of the 9th, making the final score 11-4 in favor of the Rox.
In the Canby game, Joe Fuller started on the mound and threw eight strong innings, giving up three runs and four hits to get the win. Chance Haugen threw in the 9th, giving up one unearned run on no hits while striking out two.
Leading hitters in the Canby game were Zach Giese with three hits, including a triple that resulted in three RBI; Fuller, Haugen, and Chris Fellows each had two hits; Riley Sammon, Jeff Watson, and Curt Schake each had one.
“In the Rosen game, we just couldn’t get a clutch hit. We had some nice opportunities, but were unable to capitalize on them,” stated Rox Manager Ron Thomas.
Curt Schake started on the mound and took the hard-luck loss, throwing 5 1/3 innings while giving up only one run on five hits. Chris Fellows came on in relief and threw 2 2/3 innings, giving up one unearned run on no hits.
Leading hitters for the Rox were Sammon, Watson, Fellows, and Chris Smith, each getting a hit.
The Rox have a busy schedule this week, with an 8:00 Friday night game at home against Madison; Saturday afternoon game at Benson in a game that could very well be for first place in the Teal League; and then 3:00 Sunday afternoon at home against Morris. It should be noted that the Madison game is rescheduled from an earlier rain-out, and the Morris game was originally scheduled to be a 2:00 game.
Sunday’s game will be the final regular season home game. The players would really appreciate a good turn-out for the games.
