| The 2010 Big Stone County Fair is quickly approaching and final plans are being made by the Fairboard for this year’s Fair which will be held August 4-8 in Clinton. Over the next few weeks, the Fairboard would like to highlight many of the events and attractions which will be taking place this year. The Grandstand is a busy place during the Fair and is home to many of the crowd pleasing events which bring people back year after year. On Wednesday, August 4th a new addition to the grandstand schedule will be ATV and Lawnmower Obstacle course races. The ATV races will consist of several divisions (including a side-by-side division) and the races will be either head to head or timed trials around a course layout. There will be a $5 entry fee and anyone who has an ATV is invited to participate. A Junior division is also planned for the young riders. Trophies or plaques will be awarded to the winners of each division. The Lawnmower Obstacle course race will use a lawn mower which will pull a trailer. The driver of the mower will be blindfolded and a second person will ride in the trailer and guide the driver through an obstacle course in this timed contest. This should be an interesting and fun time and the Fair hopes to make both of these annual events if it goes over well. Rules and registration are being finalized at this time, but Travis Fitzner will be the contact person for this event at 320-815-6933. Thursday evening, August 5th will bring the Antique and Stock Tractor Pull to the track for a display of power and traction. Many weight divisions will be used and trophies are awarded to the winner of each division. This event attracts more tractors each year and is a fun spectator event. Friday evening, August 6th the Enduro cars will be roaring around the oval track to see who can complete the most laps in this timed event. Front wheel drive and rear wheel drive cars will be the two divisions and will run separate races. Travis Fitzner is the contact person for this event as well. Demolition Derbies are by far the most popular Grandstand events during the fair and we have two days of Derby action to quench your thirst for destruction. The Saturday Derby on August 7th will feature the 80’s Chain cars, Pickups and small trucks/SUV’s. The Sunday afternoon Derby on August 8th is the big one with Combines, Compacts and the Weld class cars. The usual big crowds are expected for both of these Derbies so come early to get your choice of seats.
