On Monday, November 23rd a group of Milbank High School novice debaters went to Aberdeen for a novice contest attended by Watertown, Groton, host Aberdeen Central and Milbank.
Teams competed in three rounds of competition. Tieing for third place with a 5-1 record was the quartet of Rachel Johannsen and Rebecca Schrupp on the affirmative and Tori Hopkins and Bailey Neidert on the negative. They were edged out of the trophy based on speaker points. Hopkins and Neidert received ribbons for being undefeated at 3-0. Schrupp and Johannsen also were awarded ribbons for a 2-1 record.
Other teams who were honored with their 2-1 records were Courtney Trapp and Alicia Bublitz, Jesse Nelson and Seth Phillips, and Emma Christensen and Brandi Neidert. Also competing for MHS were Kylie Hagen and Cheyenne Voeltz, and Taylor Welberg and Brock Rudebusch who finished 1-2.
After the Thanksgiving vacation, the Milbank forensics team will be competing at State Interp on December 4-5 before hosting the Upper Dakota Forensic League conference tournament and the Justin Maass Novice contest on December 11-12.
