Good Government, Grant County? Empty
PostSubject: Good Government, Grant County?   Good Government, Grant County? Icon_minitimeWed Nov 25, 2009 8:23 am

In recent months this site has pointed out how bad government makes bad decisions. The election in Ortonville is the outcome of government supported by the few.

Next week the Grant County Commissioners will be tested to see if they lead or follow and the result is not who wins or who losses.

In Ortonville the Mayor had the votes and moved in a direction by himself. When the next election came he found out he was by himself and a few other fish in the small bowl. It looked like the mayor won, but. . .

The Grant County Commissioners have an opportunity to resolve the CAFO issue, but will they merely take a side. There are competing interests involved and if the Commissioners take this lightly they may also find themselves looking for something better to do on election day.

The competing interests are the neighbors who find themselves burdened with the smell, flies and dust issues. The concern of decreasing population and how it effects our schools and our downtown against the jobs and financial benefits created by the cheese plant.

It is time for a task force to help resolve the issue. In searching the web for CAFO problems this issue is not unique to South Dakota or Minnesota. Controversies in Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin are just a few states struggling with this issue.

I am very concerned that the commissioners will summarily dismiss this opportunity and take a position. This is the worst thing that can happen for Grant County. It is time to lead instead of follow and we can hope for the best.

Let's move to resolution instead of a winner take all. It really is in the best interest of our community.
