It was a sunny but cold December day as I drove to my destination. A nursing home where a friend was now residing. Although his eyesight was bad, he immediately recognized me and like only a lonely man in a home could respond, He yell out my name.
He then told me how bad his eyesight was getting. We talked and we talked. Nothing important but yet, so important.
As we left he told me how lonely he was and how much he missed his recently departed wife. I remember how fit and even now how well he looked, but as I left I wondered if this would be my last visit.
A last visit with a friend. In a season with so much activity. He never complained but I know we thought the same thing. I should do something for him at Christmas but what?
My grandfather told me that a gift with a name on it was not a gift. It was a gift with strings. So during this holiday season give time, a pleasant compliment or just a piece of yourself.
Remember others as your day will come when everyone else is too busy. Remember to treat others as you would want to be treated by them.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
