Milbank High School speakers captured second place in the Class A Sweepstakes this weekend at the Lewis and Clark Debate and Individual Events contest in Yankton. Vemillion was first with 190 points while MHS had 151. Lennox was third with 139.
Six Milbank students advanced to the finals of individual events. Three students broke in novice extemp. Winning the final round was Rebecca Schrupp while Katie Loutsch was fourth and Sam Grorud was fifth. In Novice Oratory, Rachel Johannsen won first place and Tori Remington was fourth. Jesse Nelson advanced to the final round of US Extemp and placed sixth. Other competitors in invidual events included: John Ward, Nathaniel Steinlicht, Allwin McDonald, Mitchell Wagner, Jacob Manlove, Brent Seehafer, Seth McDonald, Taylor Seehafer, and Morgan Jones.
Mitchell Wagner placed fourth in Varsity Lincoln/Douglas debate with a 4-1 record. Nathaniel Steinlicht and Jesse Nelson were 2-3 and Jacob Manlove was 1-4. In novice LD debate, Seth McDonald finished 3-2.
In Novice Policy debate Tori Remington and Morgan Jones were 3-2. Rachel Johannsen and Rebecca Schrupp were entered in Varsity Policy. In Varsity Public Forum, Brent Seehafer and Taylor Seehafer finished with a 3-2 record. John Ward and Allwin McDonald were 2-3 and Katie Loutsch and Sam Grorud were 1-4.
This weekend the team takes a break from competition and the following Saturday is the final invitational of the year at Harrisburg High School.
