Firefighters battle field blaze

BIG STONE CITY —

Firefighters were called to a fire in a stubble fieldSaturday afternoon about 8 miles northwest of Big Stone City.

The fire was reported about 4:20 p.m. Big Stone City Fire Chief Joe Wiik said the fire apparently started with burning yard waste that got out of control and spread to the nearby field. He was unsure of how much land was involved. No buildings were damaged.

Wiik said firefighters were on the scene about three hours. The Milbank Fire
Department was also called for assistance, he said.

I see Big Stone County MN and counties south of us are in the RED FLAG zone -- high alert for being so dry. I was watching the Mlps channel...and they only showed counties in MN but obviously our sister county is just as dry.

One wouldn't think it was dry...with water in the ditches, but apparently it is.
