| The Land Stewardship Project and Center for Rural Affairs will be holding public meetings discussing the 2008 Farm Bill, and what it means to rural communities, at 5 pm on March 11 at the Countryside Public Health Community Room in Ortonville. More info is below.
Opportunities for Minnesota’s Rural Communities in the 2008 Farm Bill
Are you interested in starting a business? Are you part of the growing “grown local” movement in this area? Are you interested in growing new opportunities in your rural community and on your farm? The 2008 Farm Bill has some exciting new provisions to help! The Center for Rural Affairs and Land Stewardship Project are sponsoring meetings in western Minnesota to help you learn how these programs can work for you and your community.
We will present information on the new Micro entrepreneur Assistance Program and some of the new developments and opportunities in the Value Added Producer Grant Program. Information about Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) and how it impacts farmers who market locally, Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program, changes in meat inspection and opportunities for processing locally grown meat and selling across state lines, the Conservation Stewardship Program and some of the new provisions for organic farmers will also be available.

| Due to the weather Land Stewardship Project's meetings - the Opportunities for Minnesota’s Rural Communities in the 2008 Farm Bill on March 10th and 11th been postponed. The Ortonville meeting will be rescheduled for Wednesday March 25th from 5 to 6:30 PM at the Countryside Public Health Meeting Room at 47 Second ST in Ortonville.
