The OrtonvilleRox won two games this past weekend, defeating Wheaton 28-2 on Saturday and then traveling to Appleton on Sunday to defeat the A’s by a score of 15-4. The wins clinched the Teal League title, giving the Rox three league championships in a row.

The bats were really hot in Wheaton. The locals scored 28 runs on 29 hits. The game got out of hand early, as the Rox scored four runs in the first and five more in the second, to gain a 9-0 lead after two innings. After being held scoreless in the third, the locals added four runs in the fourth and another twelve in the fifth.

Chris Fellows was the beneficiary of all the run support. He started on the bump and threw three solid innings, giving up no runs on one hit while striking out five. Zach Giese threw the fourth and fifth innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Riley Sammon threw the final two innings, giving up no runs on one hit.

The leading hitters on the day were John Thomas, Chance Haugen, Chris Fellows, and Pete Ross with four each; Giese with three hits; Jeff Watson, Matt Fellows, and Joe Fuller with two a piece; and Curt Schake and Chris Smith each getting a hit.

On Sunday, the Rox managed one run in the second inning when Chris Fellows scored on an RBI single by Sammon. The bats got hot again in the third inning when the Rox plated nine more runs on six hits. Appleton managed a run in their half of the fourth to make the score 10 to 1. The locals outscored the A’s 5-3 the rest of the way to make the final score 15-4 in favor of the Rox.

Schake threw 2 2/3 innings of very good baseball. He was replaced by Haugen, who went on to throw 2 1/3, giving up only one run. Giese threw the sixth inning, giving up no runs on one hit; Ross closed the game out, giving up two runs on one hit while striking out two.

Leading hitters for the Rox were Ross with three hits; Sammon and Haugen with two; and Smith, Thomas, Fuller, Chris Fellows, Schake, Matt Fellows, and Giese each had one.

“We really played well this past weekend. Hopefully we can continue this level of play in the tournament,” stated Rox Manager Ron Thomas.

Next Saturday the Rox start the playoffs at Rosen, taking on Appleton in a 1:30 game. They will also play in Rosen on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. if they win Saturday, or 4:30 with a Saturday loss.

The second weekend of the tournament will be hosted by the Rox. More information will be in next week’s Forum. Volunteers will be needed. Anyone willing to help with the tournament should call Ron Thomas at 320-839-3039.

The Rox would like to extend their congratulations to Coach Stattleman and the Big Stone Badgers, and wish them the very best in the state tournament this upcoming week.
